What Are You Afraid Of?

Personally I have a phobia of spiders. Let me make this very clear...a PHOBIA - not a fear. Not a simple I do not like them or think they are creapy. I am TERRIFIED of spiders. I have no idea where this irrational fear came from. I start off screaming. Then it leads to irrational screaming and crying. THEN comes the hyperventilating. Then it feels as if my throat closes off. The gasping of air comes pretty quickly after that and then in the past I have passed out. There it is folks. A phobia.

Anywhoooo...here in NC there are some BIG ass spiders. This here fella is now living in my backyard. That is until tonight when my brave hubby comes home and I tell him to remove the spider from the premises. Now I will not make him kill him. I know they are good and kill insects. I actually feel sorry for this little guy. Do you notice anything about him?? Spiders are suppose to have 8 legs. This beauty only has 6. Two are missing. I do not even want to think about what happened to them. Yick!

Now you are probably thinking how in the world a girl with a phobia like mine was able to take this photo. I have a great zoom lens! LOL

Another thing that NC is blessed with is fire ants. This is the third big mound that I have had to tackle this fall. I sprinkled the crystals/poison on the mound yesterday so today I went to check on it. Again...yick!

Looks small right now. Poison must be working! Wait....see all those dark pits? Those are not pits of dirt. They are piles of dead ants. The ants that are still alive are removing the dead bodies from inside the nest. Once again....yick!!

  1. We call those spiders "writing spiders" - see the little zigzag message in the web -just underneath him? I think they are also called garden spiders. They are very busy in the south in August/September/October. I think they are "good" spiders - if there is such a thing.

When I was young (30 years ago) -the fire ants were only in South Georgia and florida - they have been migrating northward VERY fast, since then.

  3. Oh, he's creepy and pretty all at once! I do like the colors on his back. I don't know what fire ants are, but I don't think I would like them at all!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment!

  4. My sister in Missouri had one at the same time I had one of those spiders in TN. We named them Charlotte. Mine would come up missing and hers would come out. Then hers would be missing and mine would show up. We decided it was traveling between our houses. lol. Beautiful, but like you I am scared of them. No phobic, but scared. Love your blog. Thanks for visiting Junkblossoms.

  5. I am with you on the spiders! When I was stationed in Texas I got bit by a brown recluse. I was in the hospital for a week and got quite a nasty scar on my hip. I used to tell everyone that my CO shot me! Heehee!

Snakes are worse. My husband says that they are more frightened of me than I am of them. However I disagree since I have never seen a snake scream in terror and run into whatever is around to get away!

Love your blog and thanks for visiting! Yes! You can paint those ugly countertops! I love mine! I don't regret doing it a bit. The tutorial is here http://maggiesnewspot.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-3-4-sidetracked.html
If you have any questions feel free to ask! I would love to see yours if you do decide to do it!
